The leading wine label manufacturer reaffirms its expansion into Catalonia with a major investment in technology and environmental measures.

Grupo Argraf ends 2023 immersed in the implementation of new machinery at its headquarters in Rubí (Barcelona), acquired in 2022 as part of its expansion strategy in the Catalan territory. Of the 2.2 million euros invested by the company in machinery renewal during 2023, 1.5 million euros have been allocated to the new production plant. The investment, which has focused mainly on the acquisition of MPS printing and MIDA finishing machines, reaffirms the company’s commitment to its customers in the area and allows it to offer a better quality service to the Catalan wine industry, to which it will be able to provide closer customer service at all stages of its projects.

Miguel Ángel Torroba, manager of Grupo Argraf Catalunya, points out that “the aim of this effort is to replicate Grupo Argraf’s success at the Oyón headquarters, based on the technological capacity and in-depth knowledge of the sector that have always enabled us to tackle the most complex projects with solvency”.

Innovation is not the only tool for growth that Grupo Argraf is using. During 2023, the implementation of measures focused on sustainability has been one of the main protagonists, especially highlighting the project to install solar panels at its headquarters in Oyón. This initiative, which began 4 years ago with a pilot project that produced 100KW to support the energy needs of the plant, has culminated this year with the installation of new panels that increase the capacity to 400KW, thus covering 11% of the energy consumption of the headquarters in Alava.

An experience that will be replicated at its Rubí headquarters, as the company points out that, in addition to allowing a more responsible management of natural resources, the installation of these solar panels is significantly improving the efficiency of its operations, which translates into a higher quality of its products and a better service to its customers.

The measure is complemented by other initiatives, such as the implementation of a new ink dispensing procedure that uses large drums with a pump system to reduce the consumption of smaller containers, or the growing use of recycled paper in the production of labels, a material that is constantly evolving and that increasingly allows for better finishes and more suitable prices for all types of projects.

In this sense, Alberto Torroba, Managing Director of Grupo Argraf, points out that “the main manufacturers of self-adhesive paper for the wine markets already have, and continue to develop, new ranges of recycled premium papers. This type of paper, which until recently was only available for the most basic ranges, is beginning to attract the attention of brands, which are increasingly aware of the need to protect the environment”.

Grupo Argraf’s future plans for 2024 follow the same strategic line: an investment of 1.5 million euros is planned for next year in the renewal of the rewinder fleet, implementation of artificial vision in the printing machines and new variable data coding machinery, and the focus will continue to be placed on sustainability through new projects such as the use of concentrates for the manufacture of inks or the use of LED technologies for ink drying.
